Presentation

Headaches, vomiting and diplopia.

Patient Data

Age: 16 years
Gender: Male
  • vertical tortuosity of the optic nerves
  • enlargement of the subarachnoid space around the optic nerves
  • flattening of the posterior sclera bilaterally with protrusion of the optic nerve heads mainly on the right 
  • moderately enlarged Meckel cave
  • the MRV 2D-TOF shows hypoplastic transverse sinuses mainly on the left
  • normal appearance of the posterior cranial fossa and supratentorial cerebral structures

MRI features most consistent with idiopathic intracranial hypertension in an adolescent.
