Presentation

Bilateral papilloedema.

Patient Data

Age: 25 years
Gender: Female
  • prominent subarachnoid space around the optic nerves

  • mild vertical tortuosity of the optic nerves

  • flattening of the posterior sclera (papilloedema)

  • partially empty sella turcica

  • stenosis of the lateral segments of the transverse sinuses

  • no evidence of tonsillar ectopia

Case Discussion

MRI findings are reflective of idiopathic intracranial hypertension (a.k.a pseudotumour cerebri).

Bilateral venous sinus stenosis is thought to be the most sensitive/specific finding.
