Idiopathic orbital inflammation

Diagnosis almost certain

Presentation

Right orbital pain with progressive proptosis and diplopia for five months.

Patient Data

Age: 40 years
Gender: Female

Pronounced swelling of the right orbital medial rectus muscle and less severe its tendon with right side proptosis, and preseptal and lacrimal gland soft tissue swelling are seen. Right eye exodeviation is also seen. Ill-defined calcified foci in both sides of basal ganglia are noted.

Case Discussion

The case illustrates the non-contrast MDCT features of pathology-proved idiopathic orbital inflammation (IOI) or nonspecific orbital inflammation (NSOI). The IOI can be classified as anterior, diffuse, posterior, myositis, and dacryoadenitis 1.
