Diagnosis certain

Presentation

Patient Data

Age: 40 years
Gender: Female

A defect in the umbilical region with a narrow neck and trapped distal ileal loop having normal wall enhancement and proximal small bowel obstruction.

Minimal free fluid is seen in the pelvis.

Corpus luteal cyst is seen in the left ovary.

Case Discussion

Hernia in which the contents cannot be pushed back is called incarcerated hernia. Trapped bowel loops can go into strangulation and ischemia, if not intervened early. This patient was taken up for surgery the next day.

If free fluid and bowel wall thickening were seen in the herniated sac it suggests impending strangulation.
