Esophageal cancer - incidental (PET-CT)

Presentation

Abnormal lung findings. PET-CT was recommended for workup.

Patient Data

Age: 65 years
Gender: Male
Nuclear medicine

PET-CT showing a lung nodule which is mildly metabolically and a distal esophageal lesion which is focally metabolically active.

Case Discussion

CT-guided lung biopsy was negative for cancer.

A T1 adenocarcinoma of the esophagus was diagnosed by upper endoscopy. The patient consequently underwent chemoradiation therapy with a good metabolic response. He is now scheduled for Ivor Lewis esophagectomy.
