Incidental infantile caudothalamic groove hemorrhage

Presentation

Infant rolled off bed onto floor.

Patient Data

Age: 5 months
Gender: Male

Blooming artifact (hemosiderin) is noted in the left caudothalamic groove (head CT scan done earlier in the day did not demonstrate any calcification).

Case Discussion

Caudothalamic hemorrhage is a well-known complication of prematurity. Incidental hemorrhages are sometimes incidentally seen in full-term infants when head MRI scans are done for other reasons.
