Presentation

Patient with a history of exploratory laparotomy seven years ago, presented with a palpable abdominal mass.

Patient Data

Age: 60 years
Gender: Female

Extensive incisional hernia in the middle line of the abdominal wall. The neck measures 4cm in the epigastric region, 20cm in the umbilicus, and 16cm at the hypogastric region, it contains small bowel loops, jejunum, mesentery, ascendant colon, and transverse colon, with a craniocaudal length of 24cm. No signs of incarceration or strangulation were noted.

Case Discussion

Incisional hernias through previous laparotomy scar are relatively common and they can have a major complication such as bowel obstruction, incarceration, and strangulation.
