Incomplete annular pancreas

Case contributed by Dr Mohammad Taghi Niknejad

Work up for chronic abdominal pain.

Patient Data

Age: 35 years
Gender: Female

The pancreatic head has an unusual morphology, apparently encircling the second part of duodenum without significant duodenal narrowing. No pancreatic mass is noted. The pancreatic duct is unobstructed.

Case Discussion

Annular pancreas is a morphological anomaly which can cause duodenal obstruction. In incomplete annular pancreas, the annulus does not surround the duodenum completely, giving a 'crocodile jaw' appearance.
