Incomplete distal radial fracture

Case contributed by Mohammad Taghi Niknejad
Diagnosis certain

Presentation

Fall onto an outstretched hand.

Patient Data

Age: 9 years
Gender: Female

A fracture with a cortical break at the lateral aspect is noted through the distal left radial metaphyseal region with dorsal angulation of the distal fracture component and without the involvement of the radioulnar joint.

Accompanied ulnar styloid fracture is also evident.

No carpal bone fracture.

Case Discussion

Features on x-rays are consistent with an incomplete distal radial fracture, and a soft cast with self-removal in 4 weeks is needed for treatment.

It's not a typical buckle fracture due to a cortical break and not a Colles fracture because it is not a complete fracture.
