Infantile parietal fracture acutely and at 4 months

Case contributed by Joseph Scheller
Diagnosis certain

Presentation

An infant was accidentally dropped

Patient Data

Age: 4 months
Gender: Female

Longitudinal left parietal fracture.

Four months after the injury a repeat study was obtained. There is a left longitudinal skull indentation along the previously noted fracture line.

Case Discussion

It is well known that infants who suffer accidental falls can develop parietal skull fractures. There is not much information about the imaging appearance of these fractures over time. In this case, at 4 months the fracture is gone, but a groove is apparent on 3D reconstruction at the fracture line.
