Inferior rectus muscle foreign body and orbital floor blow-out fracture

Presentation

Facial trauma and consequent orbital pain and upward gaze limitation of the right eye.

Patient Data

Age: 30 years
Gender: Male

Blow-out fracture deformity in the right orbit floor, inflammatory change within inferior orbital fat extended within inferior rectus muscle, and right eye temporal deviation is seen. Bulge of the inferior rectus muscle within the orbital floor fracture deformity is seen.
Small linear dense foreign body penetrated within inferior rectus muscle temporal side and muscle swelling is noted.

Case Discussion

The case illustrates the non-contrast MDCT features of the orbital floor blow-out fracture with the pathology-proved penetrated linear dense foreign body within the temporal side of the inferior rectus muscle. A foreign body within the orbital extraocular muscles is rarely seen which must be carefully and meticulously managed.
