Ingested foreign body: fish bone

The first x-ray demonstrates a linear opacity, consistent with a fish bone, that projects anterior to C4 in the prevertebral soft tissues. The second x-ray from a few hours later demonstrates an increase in prevertebral tissue thickening.

Case Discussion

Two images taken a few hours apart of a child who swallowed a fish bone. Note the increasing soft tissue swelling.
