Ingested foreign body - nail

Case contributed by Hani Makky Al Salam

Patient Data

Age: Child

Initial chest x-ray demonstrates a nail superimposed on the L1/L2 disc space. No free gas. Subsequent imaging shows the nail to have moved back into the body of the stomach.

Case Discussion

Ingested foreign bodies can be challenging depending on their composition. When metallic they are easy to identify but not necessarily easy to localize without multiple views.
