Presentation

Child's mother witnessed the moment her son swallowed a coin. The patient was asymptomatic.

Patient Data

Age: 5 years
Gender: Male
x-ray

A solitary well defined, rounded and metallic foreign body, apparently localized in the left upper quadrant. There are no evident signs of pneumoperitoneum, pneumothorax or pneumoediastinum.

Case Discussion

Ingestion of a foreign body is extremely common among children, specially those between 6 months and 3 years old. Usually the foreign bodies pass spontaneously in the gastrointestinal tract without complications.
