Presentation

Chest pain. Foreign body ingestion?

Patient Data

Age: 13 years
Gender: Female

The scout view shows a linear metallic foreign body of retrocardiac location in the left lower lobe. No pneumothorax or pleural effusion is seen. Lungs appear clear.

On CT the metallic foreign body (headscarf pin) is of intrabronchial location within the lower lobe bronchus.

Both lungs are clear. No pneumothorax.

Case Discussion

In Muslim countries, usually, adolescents and young ladies maintain the hijab pins or headscarf pins between their teeth or lips before putting them on their headscarf with the risk of accidental inhalation or ingestion during the conversation.
