Iniencephaly with diaphragmatic hernia

Case contributed by Dr Paresh K Desai

Presentation

Antenatal MRI for suspected anomaly on Ultrasound

Patient Data

Age: antenatal

Note: This case has been tagged as "legacy" as it no longer meets image preparation and/or other case publication guidelines.

MRI

Fetal

Selected coronal and axial T2 images show:

  • extended fetal head position, with the posterior part of the fetal brain is over the cervical and upper thoracic vertebrae, consistent with iniencephaly
  • multiple fluid-filled structures are noted at both sides of the thorax, suggestive of congenital diaphragmatic hernia

Case Discussion

MRI confirms the presence of iniencephaly and congenital diaphragmatic hernia.
