Insertional Achilles tendinitis

Diagnosis almost certain

Presentation

Pain around the left Achilles tendon insertion worsened by exertion. Radiographs obtained elsewhere showed moderate degenerative changes.

Patient Data

Age: 70 years
Gender: Male
ultrasound

Marked thickening of the symptomatic left Achilles tendon compared to the asymptomatic side, with osteophytes at the calcaneal attachment. Soft tissue edematous changes and marked tendon and tendon sheath hypervascularity are also noted. 

Case Discussion

Altogether findings favor a chronic Achilles tendinopathy complicated by frank acute tendinitis
