Intact "halo" on thyroid ultrasound

Case contributed by Dr Garth Kruger

Presentation

Another in a series of "snapshots" of thyroid ultrasound. All cases are FNA correlated.

Patient Data

Age: 60
Gender: Male
Modality: Ultrasound

The teaching point in this case is to demonstrate what an intact halo looks like. Look at case  21888 for a comparison of an absent "halo".

This is a finding that needs to be present in all orientations of imaging around the whole lesion. Its favours benign cytology as an isolated finding.
