Presentation

Intermittent episodes of vomiting and abdominal pain, currently being treated for gastroesophageal reflux disease.

Patient Data

Age: 7 years
Gender: Female

A sequence of transverse images (cine) in the epigastric region demonstrates the intestine forming a swirling pattern around the mesenteric vessels.

An upper gastrointestinal series performed through a nasogastric tube demonstrates the duodenojejunal junction abnormally positioned to the right of the spine and below the duodenal bulb. The unopacified colon is in the left abdomen.

Case Discussion

Well-illustrated case of intestinal malrotation associated with intermittent volvulus. The patient presented with recurrent vomiting and abdominal pain. After diagnosis, surgical treatment was performed, which confirmed the diagnosis.
