Intra-articular base of 5th metacarpal fracture

Patient Data

Age: 30 years
Gender: Male

There is a displaced intra-articular fracture involving the radial aspect base of the right fifth metacarpal. This could probably be better visualized on a reverse oblique radiograph. There is associated soft tissue swelling.

An example of a base of 5th metacarpal intra-articular fracture that could potentially be missed by the inexperienced reader as the major fracture fragment is superimposed over the 4th metacarpal base on the PA and oblique images.
