From the case: Intra-articular synovial lipoma of the intervertebral joint

Mild degenerative changes involving L3-S1 levels - disc bulging.

Fat containing mass within the right L3-L4 intervertebral joint with a signal loss on both STIR and T1 fat-saturated images leading to the right subarticular zone and mild dural sac stenosis.

Mild intervertebral osteoarthritic changes.

Case Discussion

Mentioned above findings are consistent with a rare appearance of the intra-articular intervertebral synovial lipoma.

Despite dural sac and subarticular zone stenosis, there are no specific symptoms.

STIR sequence doesn't exclude lipoma due to the T1 shortening effect. T1 fat-saturated images show typical features of the lipoma.

At our knowledge, there are no such reports in the international literature.
