Intracochlear schwannoma

Case contributed by Dr Andrew Dixon

Worsening left pulsatile tinnitus. Recent vasovagal episode.

Patient Data

Age: 45 years
Gender: Male

Small filling defect within the basal turn of the left cochlea with corresponding focus of enhancement. Small enhancing focus within the left amygdala probably represents incidental capillary telangiectasia.

Case Discussion

Tiny filling defect and focus of enhancement within the left basal turn of cochlear most in keeping with intracochlear schwannoma (labyrinthine schwannoma).  Audiometry confirmed localized dip in high frequency hearing on the left corresponding to the site of the lesion.
