Intracranial cavernomas

Presentation

Seizures and headache.

Patient Data

Age: 25 years
Gender: Female
mri

Heterogeneous hemorrhagic lesion containing central areas of hyperintense subacute bleed with well defined regular hypointense hemosiderin rim at periphery in left frontal lobe. Another similar lesion is seen in anterior body of corpus callosum on left side.

Prominent draining vascular channel is seen in left frontal region adjacent to lesions, possibly draining into inferior sagittal sinus.

Foci of old hemorrhage seen in left frontal lobe.

Few lacunar infarcts seen in subcortical white matter of bilateral frontoparietal lobes.

Case Discussion

Heterogeneous hemorrhagic lesions, demonstrating a 'popcorn' or 'berry' appearance, containing central hyperintense areas with a well defined regular hypointense hemosiderin rim at the periphery typically seen in cavernomas.
