Presentation

Routine screening images.

Patient Data

Age: 60 years
Gender: Female

Another in the series of time lapse mammography. MLO views of the right breast in one patient over 5 years.

Upper breast density in the retromammary fat (projecting over the pectoralis shadow) grows slightly larger each year.

Irregular echogenic mass with posterior shadowing.

Case Discussion

When comparing with previous, find the oldest comparable study. Do not be tempted to just look at last year. It is too easy and nothing is this easy. The lesion far lateral in the right breast changes very little year to year but the change over the five years is quite significant. A small invasive ductal carcinoma (IDC) demonstrated on ultrasound, and biopsied under ultrasound guidance.
