Intraductal papilloma

Case contributed by Alexandra Stanislavsky
Diagnosis certain

Recent inversion of the left nipple.

Patient Data

Age: 50 years
Gender: Female

There is indrawing of the left nipple with an elongated density projecting posteriorly into the left breast. There is no associated calcification or discrete mass.

The right breast mammogram (not shown) was normal.

Dilatation of a single retroareolar duct extending from the left nipple. It is filled with homogeneous material and has internal vascularity.

Case Discussion

Ultrasound-guided biopsy was performed, as well as subsequent excision showing an intraductal papilloma without atypia. Clinically, the inverted nipple was readily everted, thought likely periductal inflammation.
