Intramedullary cyst of the lumbar spinal cord

Case contributed by Roberto Schubert
Diagnosis probable

Presentation

Tingling an numbness of the lower extremities with alternating location.

Patient Data

Age: 25 years
Gender: Female

Large intramedullary lesion with fluid-equivalent signal on native T1 and T2 images. Sharp regular borders, no associated edema, no contrast enhancement.

Case Discussion

Given the smooth borders and homogeneous content, the most probable diagnoses would be either developmental ependymal or epidermoid cyst (DWI might have helped here). Histology was not obtained so far.
