Intramedullary spinal metastasis

History of breast cancer, presenting with neck stiffness and tetraparesis.

Patient Data

Age: 55 years
Gender: Female

A focal intramedullary lesion at the C5/6 level with perifocal edema. After IV gadolinium, the lesion enhances homogeneously.

Case Discussion

MRI of the cervical spine showed a solitary, centrally located hypervascular lesion of the spinal cord at the C6 level with intramedullary edema, that extended 2 segments above and below.  The patient had been under chemotherapy for breast cancer with liver metastases.
