Intramural blood pool (illustration)

Case contributed by Vincent Tatco
Diagnosis not applicable

This illustrates an intramural blood pool (IMBP) within an aortic intramural hematoma (IMH).

Case Discussion

Intramural blood pools are small spaces within a recent aortic intramural hematoma which enhance on contrast-enhanced CT imaging. They are often associated with an adjacent aortic branch artery, like the intercostal, bronchial and lumbar arteries. They may or may not show communication with the aortic lumen.
