Intramuscular arteriovenous malformation

Presentation

Three-month history of painless left-sided post-auricular swelling. Nil precipitating trauma.

Patient Data

Age: 55 years
Gender: Male

Large intramuscular arteriovenous malformation located within the left splenius capitis muscle. This is supplied by the left occipital artery which has an enlarged appearance and drained by paraspinous neck veins. 

No evidence of intracranial extension. Remaining appearance of the neck is unremarkable.

Case Discussion

The patient has been booked for embolization of his left occipital artery to treat the arteriovenous malformation.
