Presentation
Right shoulder pain for the last few years. Worsening during the last few months. Right dominant arm. No trauma.
Patient Data
There is a fluid cleft extending from the articular surface of the supraspinatus tendon to the myotendinous junction of the supraspinatus muscle where it forms an anechoic cyst. The rest of the supraspinatus tendon shows mild thickening with few areas of loss of normal echopattern. The subscapularis and infraspinatus tendons are normal. The biceps long head tendon is normal in position and echopattern. There is no subdeltoid-subacromial bursal effusion or glenohumeral joint effusion. There is no lesion in the spinoglenoid notch region.
Case Discussion
The case shows an intramuscular cyst of the supraspinatus with an articular side partial thickness tear of the supraspinatus tendon.
