Intramuscular hemangioma - gluteus maximus muscle

Coronal T1
The MRI sequences demonstrate a well-defined intramuscular mass within the gluteus maximus measuring 10 x 7.5 x 6 cm, of isosignal to the muscle on T1 with a peripheral rim of fatty signal, heterogeneous high signal on T2 and STIR with no restricted diffusion. The postcontrast dynamic sequences show a progressive peripheral enhancement with a heterogeneous incomplete fill-in on delayed sequences.

Histological report (translation):
- results: the tissue sample of an intramuscular mass was included entirely and examined on several levels of sections, it involved mainly striated muscle along with cavernous structures engorged with blood and associated with an adipose component altered by fibrosis and lipophages.
- conclusion: histological appearance pointing to an intramuscular hemangioma. To be correlated with clinical and radiological data.

MRI features of a well-circumscribed intramuscular mass suggestive of a hemangioma ( pathologically proven).
