Case Discussion

The case is a 60-year-old female who came to emergency complaining of right side eyelids swelling, epiphora, and a history of foreign body collision with the right eye. The non-contrast orbital MDCT requested that is the study of choice for the detection and evaluation of complications of the ocular foreign body. The orbital MRI is contraindicated because of the probability of a metallic foreign body as in this case. The ocular foreign body is an emergency case and must be treated urgently.

The main determining factors for complications and prognosis of the ocular foreign body are injury mechanism, size, type of the ocular foreign body, visual acuity, retinal detachment, and presence of endophthalmitis.
