Intraventricular and base of skull meningioma

Patient Data

Age: 55 years
Gender: Female

Evidence of a previous craniotomy (craniectomy and cranioplasty) without evidence of underlying recurrent / residual tumor.

Two rounded strongly enhancing lesions are demonstrated. The first is in the right middle cranial fossa with a small amount of adjacent edema. The second is in the right lateral ventricle, in the region of the trigone. Both lesions are isointense to grey matter on T1 weighted sequences, slightly hyperintense on T2 weighted sequences, and demonstrate minor restricted diffusion.

Incidental note is made of a pineal cyst.

Case Discussion

This patient had a left middle cranial fossa meningioma resected (note the post operative change and cranioplasty) years previously and is being followed for two other meningiomas, one in the right middle cranial fossa and the other in the trigone of the right lateral ventricle.

Both have characteristic appearances.

Trivia: most intraventricular meningiomas are of the fibrous histological subtype.
