Presentation

Nausea, vomiting, right hypochondrial pain.

Age: 5 years
Gender: Male

Concentric rings of bowel wall (target sign).

The outer ring represents the recipient bowel segment we call the intussuscipiens. It appears thickened, edematous, and hypoechoic.

The inner ring represents the invaginating segment of bowel loop seen engorged filled with viscous secretions and hyperechoic.

Case Discussion

Five year old male child complaining of severe diffuse abdominal pain mainly localized at the right hypochondrium region. Vomiting is noted by his parents in addition to refusal of eating.

The case was referred by the pediatrician to exclude appendicitis.
