Presentation

A lump in right breast. Has had annual mammograms forever.

Patient Data

Age: 55 years
Gender: Female

The MLO view of the right breast looked "normal".

On the tomosynthesis, series look what pops up on review ......

ultrasound

8 mm Invasive ductal carcinoma (IDC) confirmed on biopsy. This was the lesion the patient palpated.

Case Discussion

The initial mammogram was not that dense: Volpara B density.

Intuitively I suppose most would suspect tomosynthesis will add value in the really dense breast. This case shows its value in a relatively fatty breast.
