Presentation
Routine mammograms right breast, 4 years apart.
Patient Data
Small deep focal density. It is hardly seen due to old exam.
Follow up after one year, same breast, same patient. The small focal deep breast density is still present with nearly similar size.
CC view of right breast with unfortunate, ever-present Digital Arrow.
Case Discussion
Not all cancers grow aggressively or quickly. This is a case of a slow-growing invasive ductal carcinoma, histology confirmed.
As a general rule, the older post-menopausal ladies have less aggressive, more indolent cancers while the converse is true for young pre-menopausal cancers. I said General Rule.
This is why some of us feel screen annually before 50 and then twice a year.
This case also illustrates the misnomer of "overdiagnosis"
