Ischiofemoral impingement

Case contributed by Dr C. Igler

Presentation

Bilateral (predominantly right-sided) longterm pain in the posterior region of the hip. No history of trauma. Worsening especially on exertion.

Patient Data

Age: 50 years
Gender: Male
MRI

High signal especially in the right quadratus femoris muscle.

The right quadratus femoris muscle shows a mild fatty degeneration.

The ischiofemoral spaced is narrowed on both sides (10mm).

Case Discussion

Non-traumatic hip pain can be caused by narrowing of the ischiofemoral space. MRI can show signal alterations of the quadratus femoris muscle.
