Presentation

Wrist pain after falling down with the outstretched hand.

Patient Data

Age: 25 years
Gender: Male
x-ray

There is a transverse fracture at the mid capitate. The articular surface appears intact. There is no separation of the ulnar styloid process. The adjacent joint alignment appears normal.

Case Discussion

Isolated capitate fractures are rare (scaphoid is the most common associated fracture) and occur via forceful dorsiflexion of hand with impact on the radial side.
