This is an upper GI contrast study with low osmolar non-ionic contrast media.
Reference image demonstrates haziness in the right middle zone.
There is abnormal communication between proximal parts of the esophagus and trachea representing fistula. There is no evidence of esophageal atresia. There is no evidence of pyloric stenosis or intestinal malrotation.
Case Discussion
Isolated tracheoesophageal fistula without atresia constitutes approximately 4% of the congenital tracheoesophageal fistula and esophageal atresia. The diagnosis of H-type tracheoesophageal fistula without esophageal atresia can sometimes be challenging.
