Case contributed by Dennis Odhiambo Agolah
Diagnosis certain

Presentation

Routine early second trimester surveillance. Mc Donald stitch and IUCD in situ.

Patient Data

Age: 35 Years
Gender: Female
ultrasound

A copper-T intra-uterine contraceptive device (IUCD) is visualized in situ within the antero-medial endometrial roof extrinsic and paralleling the fundal intra-uterine gestational sac. The contraceptive device's wings are relatively extended into the bilateral fallopian/tubal cornual ends. The single intra-uterine fetus and the gestational sac and the maternal cervix are uneventful.

Case Discussion

A viable early singleton intra-uterine pregnancy (IUP) coexisting with a copper-T intra-uterine contraceptive device (IUCD) in situ. No obvious malpositioning or displacement of the IUCD into the myometrium or along the lower uterine lumen. No disruption into the gestational sac by the intra-uterine device either.
