High velocity road traffic accident - neck stiffness, restricted movement and severe pain

Patient Data

Age: 60 years
Gender: Male

CT cervical spine

  • disrupted anterior and posterior arches of atlas (4 part fracture). 
  • secondary basilar invagination (cranial odontoid peg migration). 
  • atlanto occipital impaction. 

Case Discussion

High velocity axial loading on C1 results in the Jefferson fracture.
