Acute shortness of breath on background of longstanding respiratory issues.
Patient Data
Dextrocardia and right sided aortic arch. Coarsened bronchovascular markings with tram-tracking consistent with bronchiectasis.
The patient is known to have Karagener's.
Dextrocardia and right sided aortic arch. Widespread tracheal, bronchial and bronchiolar wall thickening, leading to bronchiectasis in the lower lobes. Bibasal nodules and airspace consolidation, new from previous and suggesting acute infection.
Case Discussion
This case demonstrates the typical findings of Kartagener syndrome: dextrocardia and bronchiectasis. Repeated infection is a common complication.
In the context of first diagnosis, it is important to evaluate for other associated findings: chronic sinusitis and infertility.
