Non enahnced CT images (scout, lung mediastinal windows) demonstrate the mirror-image anatomy of the viscera in situs inversus. The heart and great vessels are a mirror image of their normal anatomy. The left hemithorax contains a trilobed lung, whereas the right hemithorax contains a bilobed lung. The liver and gallbladder are on the left side, and the spleen and stomach are on the right side. Traction and cystic bronchiectatic changes are also important findings.
The combination of findings are consistent with Kartagener syndrome.
