Presentation
History of hypertension, diabetes, myocardial infarction and left nephrectomy presents to the emergency department with shortness of breath.
Patient Data
There is no renal mass, calculi, or hydronephrosis. Increased renal parenchymal echogenicity is consistent with the patient's history of chronic kidney disease stage III. There is a small amount of right perinephric fluid.
Case Discussion
This is an example of the kidney sweat sign in a patient with known chronic kidney disease. The kidney sweat sign can be seen in patients with renal failure and is thought to represent perinephric edema. The patient was admitted for acute pulmonary edema, hypertensive emergency, and acute kidney injury on underlying chronic kidney disease.
