The lunate bone is collapsed and displays low signal intensity in all sequences, although there is some marrow edema and degenerative cystic change.
Negative ulnar variance is also seen, with shortening of the distal ulnar in relation to the distal radius.
Synovial cysts originate from the lunotriquetral and radiocarpal joint spaces, respectively.
There is intact triangular fibrocartilage.
