Presentation

Chronic wrist pain on the left side.

Patient Data

Age: 20 years
Gender: Male
MRI

The lunate bone is collapsed and displays low signal intensity on all sequences, although there is some marrow edema and degenerative cystic change.

Synovial cysts originate from the lunotriquetral and radiocarpal joint spaces, respectively. 

The triangular fibrocartilage is intact.

Case Discussion

Avascular necrosis of the lunate bone (Kienböck disease).
