Subchondral hypointensity in distal aspects of lunate with marrow edema in distal and radial aspects of lunate. Mild overlying cortical collapse is seen. Few areas of sclerosis are also seen.
No obvious ulnar variance is seen
Mild hyperintensity is noted in triangular fibrocartilage complex at ulnar attachment consistent with degeneration / grade I sprain. No evidence of complete tear seen.
Alignment of bones appears normal.
Case Discussion
These findings are consistent with avascular necrosis of the lunate i.e. Kienböck disease.
