Presentation

Pain in wrist

Patient Data

Age: 25 years
Gender: Female
mri

Avascular necrosis of lunate with areas of sclerosis and significant marrow edema.

Mild partial collapse with reduction in height.

Associated loss of articular cartilage is seen along volar aspects of distal radius with subchondral cysts / erosions and mild cortical irregularity.

Negative ulnar variance is seen in present position with shortening of ulna relative to radius 3.3mm.

Case Discussion

Findings are suggestive of Kienböck disease. An association between negative ulnar variance and Kienböck disease has been described.
