Presentation
New nasogastric tube not able to flush or aspirate.
Patient Data
The nasogastric tube descends down the thorax in midline, bisecting the carina, the tip is located under the left hemidiaphragm. The tube demonstrates a kink of its radio-opaque indicator line just proximal to the weighted tip.
Tip of the nasogastric tube demonstrating the indentation from the kink. This is a particularly firm type of nasogastric tube that is less flexible to bending stress.
Case Discussion
Nasogastric tubes often need troubleshooting in clinical settings. In addition to checking the correct positioning of the nasogastric tube, the mechanical state can also be assessed on chest X-ray.
