Kissing carotids simulating prevertebral haematoma

Cervical Spine CT

The common and internal carotid arteries ascend more medially than is usual and almost meet in the midline (kissing carotids). This causes apparent thickening of the prevertebral soft-tissues which could be misinterpreted by some readers as haematoma 

Case Discussion

Kissing carotids causing apparent thickening of the pre-vertebral soft-tissues which could be easily misinterpreted as prevertebral haematoma. No acute traumatic injury was identified.
